Problem when installing Configuration Manager (SCCM SP2) in Windows 2008 R2
When you try to install ConfigMgr on Windows 2008 R2 you can face the problem below to get to the download phase of prerequisites (Component manifest was not found or it was invalid):
When looking at the log created at the root of the installation disc you will find the following snippet:
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 14 > Checking for component updates …
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 14 > Downloading component manifest …
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 14 > Downloading http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=141733 as configmgr.manifest.cab
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 16 > checking if there’s an explicit proxy server.
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 16 > WinHttpSendRequest failed 80072ee7
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 16 > Download () failed with 0x80072EE7
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 16-manifest.cab > Failed to download (0x80072EE7)
< 01-04-2011 15: 48: 17 > Failed to download prerequisite components (0x80072EE7)
The first step to do here is to try to download the URL above and see if the problem is not the IE Enhanced security that need to be turned off in order to download:
Download the file configmgr.manifest.cab and copy in an empty folder or even that already contains the updates from previous versions of SCCM 2007 and start again the setup process.
