Live Migration + vMotion + XenMotion – System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012
That’s right, the VMM 2012 include the three “hot” migration technologies.
The VMM 2008 R2 already include vMotion, but he manages in isolation of Live Migration of Hyper-V.
Has the feature of Xen, XenMotion, was not supported. Incidentally, the Xen was not supported in VMM 2008 R2.
What Microsoft has done now is to combine three technologies of migration. But not only that, but allows you to join in the same group of servers (managed pool) ESX, Hyper-V and XenServer!!!!!
That’s it, now we can put in a group, for example, 3 Hyper-V servers + 2 VMWare ESX servers + 2 XenMotion server and VMM 2012 will be able to migrate VMs between the 3 platforms. Sensational!!!!!
However, note that between the Xen host will be used XenMotion, ESX use vMotion and Hyper-V use Live Migration. Among them is the process is V2V, i.e. with a restart. The big change is to use the PRO Tips between hosts without Hyper-V and use technology to move between hosts.
